Inscription on frame verso reads: This charcoal and chalk wash by distinguished artist Sir Hans Heysen depicts a quarry at Glen Osmond in the Adelaide Hills, South Australia. / The actual work of art was done in 1940. / Sir Hans was noted for his wash drawings and this is a very fine example of his best work. / Sir Hans loved the study of quarries because of the stone strata and texture and this study is typical of the Adelaide Hills. / Walter Wotzke / Director, Hahndorf Gallery / 15/12/71
