A VICTORIAN PORCELAIN DESSERT SERVICE IN AESTHETIC MANNER
Thomas Ford, Staffordshire, 1873

Eighteen pieces, comprising a pair of lozenge-shaped dishes, four circular dishes, and twelve plates, each of the dishes with a pair of handles to the raised sides and standing a four paw feet, the exteriors of the dishes and the borders of the plates modelled in low relief as a lattice glazed in turquoise between the gilt and white edges, all centres decorated in Japanese manner with various scenes of birds amidst foliage or foliage alone, impressed maker's marks with date 1873 in the style of diamond registration marks underside

Accompanied by an original receipt recording the purchase of the service by Mr Parke from W. Irving, Furnishing Ironmonger, Dealer in China [etc.], Barrow-in-Furness, on 20 October, 1876
