Lot 103
The frame late 19th century, probably Italian
The rectangular plate within a hardwood frame carved to simulate bamboo surmounted with a crest of flowers, ribbons, and swags of tasselled braid
Note: The appearance of the plate in the catalogue photograph has been modified; it does not represent the actual appearance of the plate.
160cm high, 90cm wide
Estimate $800 - $1,200
Generally in good condition consistent with age, with minor wear to the gilding, this possibly restored with retouching the gesso surface and selective regilding. The whole frame appears to have a thin clear varnish (shellac?) over it.
The are scattered small, mostly slight and inconspicuous spots of degradation to the silvering generally towards the edges of the plate. (The appearance of the plate in the catalogue photograph has been modified; it does not represent the actual appearance of the plate.)
(In preparing this report it has not been possible to fully inspect the back of the mirror.)
