Roberts, D., and Roberts, A., Shadows in the Mist, Art Australia, South Australia, 1989, pg. 19 (illus.)

"The Australian Aborigines believe that in the beginning there was no fire and the only light in the world was that from the stars...the time when the earth was cold and clothed in darkness. But one day, after a heavy thunderstorm, a man and his wife saw a strange glow where a bolt of lightning had struck an old log. Puzzled by this weird sight, they covered it with bark but the bark suddenly burst into flame...the elder realised that here was something that would give his people light to dispel their darkness and heat to keep them warm...and so that the twin blessings of light and warmth would never be lost, he sent them up into the sky to become the sun and moon." [excerpt, pg. 18]
