Alan Constable is a highly accomplished artist whose practice involves drawing, painting and ceramics. His ceramic sculptures reflect a life-long fascination with objects that embody the sense of sight. Committing form to memory by touch and minimal sight, her transfers his vision to clay, leaving clear impressions on the surface and self-reflexively capturing and reinterpreting the objects. Not titled is a classic example, speaking directly to the manner in which he explores ways of seeing; tactile and distorted in translation and imbued with the subjectivity of the artists perception. Constable has worked at Arts Project since 1991. He has presented in a number of solo exhibitions including Andrew Baker Art Dealer, Brisbane; Darren Knight Gallery, Sydney; and South Willard, curated by Ricky Swallow, Los Angeles. His work is held in a number of significant collections including the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne and The Museum of Everything, London. Constable is currently represented by DUTTON, New York; Darren Knight, Sydney; and Arts Project Australia, Melbourne.
